MÉDITERRANÉE(S) - Festival 2010
Monteverdi - Piazzolla
Leonardo García Alarcón - conductor
Artist in residence
Monteverdi and Piazzolla, although separated by 350 years, had the same overwhelming effect on their contemporary worlds. "Both were aware of this never-ending force: life, synonymous with emotion, love, metamorphosis, crisis and death" (Leonardo García Alarcón). This innovative programme, first performed at the 2009 Festival, sees musicians move from harpsichord to piano, from viola da gamba to double bass, from lute to electric guitar in a whirlwind of impassioned rhythms. As well as being sung – by a magnificently expressive soprano and an authentic tanguero – the performance is as much choreographic, the dancers embodying the fusion of music and song. A performance suitable for all, from 8 years of age.
