MÉDITERRANÉE(S) - Festival 2010
bracanà
The ensemble A Filetta is without doubt one of the foremost ambassadors of Corsican polyphony. Like the plant from which it takes its name, it is deeply rooted in the soil of its homeland, and for 30 years it has sung this land's hymns, 'original songs' whose exact provenance – due to the diverse influences which have come to bear on the island – is unknown. Bracanà, which can be translated as 'multicoloured' or 'to change colour with the approach of maturity', brings together secular and sacred song in an impassioned and radiant reading. This concert reflects an approach combining tradition and renewal; the ancient songs find an echo in contemporary compositions born of events both sombre and joyful.
Traditional Corsican and Georgian songs, and contemporary compositions by A Filetta, interspersed with sung texts of Jean-Claude Acquaviva, Primo Levi, Seneca, Pampasgiolu and Petru Santucci.
